Why this section exists
Voice assistants are the part of a smart home that changes underneath you. Amazon closed the interface that let outside apps read Alexa's shopping list in July 2024, and most of what is written about it still describes the arrangement that no longer exists. We say what the current behaviour is and where the documentation says so.
